At one point, I even experienced a mild case of frostnip! The ship’s medical team was actually stationed near the gangway, checking guests’ fingers and hands as we returned from excursions. Crew members stood by handing out mugs of hot coffee—not necessarily to drink, but simply to hold so we could thaw out our hands.
One evening, we even found ourselves caught in a flash blizzard. As we walked, ice formed right on our clothing, cracking and refreezing with every step. The locals, of course, were completely unfazed. One Norwegian looked at us shivering and said, “You be careful out here, yah? It’s cold out here, yah?”
That may have been the understatement of the century!
Is a Northern Lights Cruise Worth It?
People have asked me if I would do it again. Personally? The Arctic cold is something I only need to experience once in a lifetime! But would I recommend it to my clients? Absolutely, without hesitation.
